EMPLOYERS' RESPONSIBILITY FOR PREVENTING SEXUAL HAR-ASSMENT TO BE STRENGTHENED
The Gender Equality in Employment Act expressly requires employers to prevent the occurrence of sexual harassment in the workplace. Any employer employing 30 or more employees should draw up sexual harassment prevention measures and rules for complaints and disciplinary procedures, and should display these publicly in the workplace. If an employer becomes aware of sexual harassment, it should take immediate effective action to correct the situation and provide redress.
To enhance employers' responsibility for preventing sexual harassment, on 7 October 2008 the Leg-islative Yuan gave its first reading to draft amendments to the Act that would increase the maximum fine for an employer that fails in its duties of prior prevention and corrective action from the current NT$100,000 to a maximum of NT$500,000.
