UPCOMING LABELING REQUIREMENTS FOR UNPACKAGED FOOD-STUFFS

On 4 September 2008 the Department of Health gave an advance notice that it is preparing to promulgate the Matters Relating to the Implementation of Labeling for Unpackaged Food.  The main content is as follows:

  • Goods affected: Unpackaged foodstuffs, i.e., all foodstuffs other than foodstuffs in containers or packaging as referred to in Article 17 of the Food Sanitation Act.
  • Foodstuffs affected: all categories of foodstuffs.

  • Locations affected: premises where foodstuffs are displayed for sale by a foodstuffs enterprise that obtained company or business registration.

  • Date of implementation: 1 January 2010.

  •  Means of labeling: By card, tag, label, plaque, board, etc., which may be hanging, standing, inserted, or adhesive.
